BI

  • BI Gyan - Information on Transaction is more important than the transaction themselves
  • Analytics - Is not a Business Strategy. It's a Corporate Strategy!
  • BI Success - Is entirely dependent on mature data warehouse and clean data
Business Intelligence

Walter Wriston of Citibank/Citicorp (CEO 1967-1984) had once said “Information about Transactions, at some point in time, will become more important than the transaction themselves”. This has never been more relevant than in the current times.

He was talking about Business Intelligence! It's not an option anymore.

BI is not just about Reporting, Dashboards or Analytics. It is THE Major Competitive differentiator in todays increased commoditized economy. Produtivity and efficiency gains are not enough to compete in today’s economy. Going forward we will need more information and better decision management to compete effectively. In fact, as one of the COOs of a large bank has mentioned, if you do not have processes and productivity gains to handle back and middle office efficiently, you are doing something wrong.

According to Forrester research, Enterprise optimization is the key. Enterprise optimization comes with Efficiency, Agility and Effectiveness.

  • Efficiency - Businesses need to be highly productivity and shoud have highly efficient processes. These will have to be derived from operationl applications, transactional systems and back & middle office systems.
  • Agility – Businesses will move faster than what traditional IT environments can handle. These will have to be tackled by SOA, Component Based Architecture and dynamic applications.
  • Effectiveness – Business will have to make better informed decisions much faster than what they have been doing till now. This will have to be put in place through analytics.

Analytics is not a departmental or business strategy, it is fast becoming a corporate strategy. Not using analytics can be quite disasterous. Infact corporates are no longer looking at IT as a support organization. IT will need to be business partners in helping gaining more market share, convert more prospects to customers, enter and conquer new markets.
